Volunteer: Zoo Interpreter Application

ZOO INTERPRETER VOLUNTEER POSITION OVERVIEWZoo Interpreter volunteers educate and inspire guests at various locations in the Zoo, including our Giraffe, Florida Black Bear, and Barnyard Buddies locations. They facilitate hands-on educational opportunities, assist with animal feeding interactions with guests, and visual displays as you interact with Zoo guests.

Training SessionsWe onboard new Zoo Interpreter volunteers approximately every other month. We send out invites to attend an orientation and training session about one month before the scheduled date. If accepted as a Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens volunteer, an initial volunteer orientation and training session is required before beginning volunteer service. Completing an on-the-job training and introductory period is also required before full acceptance into the Zoo Interpreter volunteer position.
RequirementsMust be over 18 years old.Pass training program with 80% or higher.Pay a $40 training fee for onboarding materials and uniform.If this fee creates a financial hardship, please contact us for assistance.Participate in volunteer orientation.Must be able to commit to volunteering 30 hours annually.Successfully complete an introductory period.Must successfully pass a background check.Abide by policies in the Volunteer Handbook.Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate the ability to work well with visitors.Be interested in educating the public about conservation.Must be able to tolerate Florida’s weather conditions.
