The Zoo is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that is an affordable family experience supported by private donations and gate admission. We are one of a small number of private, non-profit, Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA)-accredited zoos in the country, which requires that we maintain the highest standards in animal welfare, conservation, education, veterinary care, and more. We bring the world of animals to our guests who may never have the opportunity to see these animals in the wild and we are dedicated to the preservation and conservation of animals worldwide. To be able to make the impact we do, we rely on volunteers like you. Your group could be assisting with a variety of projects, including assisting with events, making animal enrichment, invasive plant removal, painting, building, refurbishing animal habitats, and more! So, plan to dress for the occasion and dress comfortably according to the weather. We require that you all wear closed-toe shoes and bring water! We have gardening gloves for volunteer use, but you are welcome to bring your own to use as well. The Zoo has great food services on the property, so if you would like to order food for your group while you are here, please let me know so I can assist in coordinating that for you. After you are done volunteering at the Zoo, you are welcome to enjoy exploring the Zoo that day for free as our thank you for all your hard work! You may be asked to volunteer at activity stations, with greeting guests, or admissions. By signing up to do this event, you are considered a Zoo Crew volunteer at the Zoo! Zoo Crew volunteers assist on a one-time or periodic basis with the Zoo's special events and projects, ranging from after-hour special events for adults and kids, days, private daytime events, holiday-related events, and more! Depending on the event you could be playing games with guests, leading craft activities, providing directions/information, or handing out treats to guests, as just a few examples. You will have access to a virtual orientation to review so you can get to know us and our Zoo. If you have a child that you'd like to bring with you to volunteer at events, you will need prior approval from the Volunteer Manager. Please keep in mind that your child will have to be above the age of 13 years old to accompany you, must accompany you at all times, and will have to sign a separate release form. We ask that Zoo Crew volunteers wear weather-appropriate and family-friendly clothing, we will provide nametags. Volunteer: Zoo Boo BashCentral Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is hosting our annual Zoo Boo Bash. Guests will get to trick-or-treat at the wildest place in town! The Zoo will have plenty of not-so-scary decorations and activities, including trick-or-treat stations. We will have treats, games, local vendors, and so much more! We are hosting this event on October 17th, 18th, 24th, 25th & 31st. This event is largely supported by volunteers as we need at least 35 volunteers (but can accept up to 70 volunteers) to keep the event running as volunteers support all of our activity, greeting, and treat stations. We need volunteers for the entire day from 8:00 am-4:30 pm. At this time, we are looking for volunteers who can attend the entire day. We will provide breaks for you and we have some great food sold on property at the Zoo if you need lunch to be purchased. Guests, staff, and volunteers will all be welcome to celebrate Halloween wearing family-friendly costumes. We do allow children ages 13 and up to volunteer. However, if they are under 18 years old, we will need 1 chaperone per every 1-2 children because we want to make sure they have an adult with them at all times.
